Video Remix Reflection

My video remix is a supercut of clips of comedians receiving laughter, but (usually) making a pained or sad face. Text and music is inserted to make it seem like the comedians are just being laughed at. It's all a joke.

There are a few cultural references: even though Piano Man and Sound of Silence are old songs, they have taken on new meaning by being used in meme videos. Additionally, John Mulaney is a younger comedian that is more popular (I think) with millenials. However, these millenial cultural reference are balanced by including Seinfeld and Chappelle, relatable to a broader audience. Thus, my audience is a pretty wide, general audience looking for a laugh. There is no call to action, and nothing really to be done. I hope the audience reaction is just a laugh.

This style of video is just a meme style, where things that mean one thing in context are taken out of their context and arranged to mean something new. The videos in the remix are from SNL, The Late Show, and a comedy special (posted by a private individual). In their original context, they are all intended to be viewed as a whole and to just communicate jokes. However, I repurposed them to point out that sometimes comedians make weird faces while being laughed at.

This would best be presented on YouTube and shared through social media (think Reddit, Twitter). Videos presented in this context are often expected to be funny, especially if it was titled something like "Comedians being sad." This would make it easier for the audience to understand the purpose and situate references within their context ("the Internet").
